On February 22, 2005, Don Gray (tenor), Chuck Watson (lead), Dutch Speidel (bass) and John Byerly (baritone) sang together for the first time following a Southern Gateway Chorus rehearsal. Seven weeks later they were named the Seniors Quartet Champions for Ohio, West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. They also won the right to represent their district at the Barbershop Harmony Society International Seniors Quartet Championships in 2006, and again in 2007 where they placed 8th in the world.
